Of the many new abilities that were shown off in the newest Metroid Dread trailer, one of the most exciting was an upgrade to Samus’ iconic missile launcher. Known as the Storm Missile, this upgrade will allow Samus to lock on to multiple targets and fire a volley missiles at each of them. The trailer showed how this will allow Samus to take down all kinds of enemies at once, or solve complex puzzles, and it should prove to be a worthwhile addition to her arsenal....
Because a major tenet of metroidvania games is passing through the same areas sometimes dozens of times, they often introduce ways for players to see their actions having an impact on the environment. This goes back to the days of Super Metroid, when defeating Phantoon restored power in Planet Zebes’ Wrecked Ship. However, both Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight pull off a similar trick with regards to changing their initial locales, and do a great job selling the idea of player impact on otherwise static, abandoned worlds....

In previous games, the Chozo were only occasionally referenced in game manuals, brief cutscenes, and endgame artwork. This is in part due to the limitations posed by previous console systems like the Game Boy Advance and the Super Nintendo. Players knew the Chozo were an advanced, shamanistic species that sparsely populated the galaxy, and it was also made apparent that Samus was raised by the Chozo - but that’s about all the games ever divulged....
In a recent report, which cites a Spanish gaming news website, some of the development team who worked on Metroid Dread, and have since left the company, are accusing the studio of fostering a “negative” and “stressful” workplace environment. While the original story does not have any comment from current staff members, a number of ex programmers and artists have come forward about their time working on the game. One person described it as “quite chaotic” while another said they felt the company did not value its staff....
With Nintendo yet to confirm which studio is working Metroid Prime 4, there has been much speculation that Bandai Namco is leading the game’s development. Nintendo-focused journalist Marcus Sellars previously claimed that Bandai Namco is working on the game and this has been backed up by new sources who have spoken to Eurogamer. Eurogamer’s own report on the matter confirms that Bandai Namco Studios Singapore is leading the development of the game in collaboration with Nintendo....
With it being so long since Metroid Prime 4 was first announced, some fans believe that the game could be on its way fairly shortly. However, recent job listings at Retro Studios, the company that took over the development of Metroid Prime 4 after Bandai Namco, may suggest otherwise. The developer is hiring for both a Senior Concept Artist and an Environmental Designer. The Senior Concept artist is tasked with designing worlds and characters, while the Environmental Designer will have responsibilities revolving around implementing “proxy environments that accurately communicate intent....
