Without Remorse is based on one of Tom Clancy’s best-selling novels that were adapted into games and serve as the origin story for John Clark, who happens to be just one of the many characters from Clancy’s books that make up the “Ryanverse,” the fictional political landscape where the author’s novels take place, and definitely not something related to Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. In this universe, Jack Ryan is the star of the show, with his stories serving as the setting for classic movies like The Hunt for The Red October and Patriot Games, or the more recent Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit starring Chris Pine.

In Without Remorse, Jordan goes by the name of John Kelly, a former US Navy SEAL not unlike Black Panther’s Killmonger, before adopting the name of John Clark and becoming one of Jack Ryan’s most trusted allies. The trailer tells the story of how John’s quest to avenge his family’s murder leads him to work black-ops with the US government again in what looks to be a mission with an incredibly high body count, which could just as easily tell the story behind each of Killmonger’s tribal scars.
Without Remorse is not Clancy’s only story with new projects on the horizon, as gamers’ beloved Sam Fisher will probably finish his transition from Ubisoft to Netflix when Derek Kolstad’s Splinter Cell animated series releases next year. Meanwhile, Jordan has his fair share of work cut out for him too as he embarks on his directorial debut in Creed’s third outing, now without the help of Rocky Balboa being around to train Adonis Creed after Sylvester Stallone confirmed his absence in Creed 3.
Maybe Without Remorse could be the start of a new action movie franchise tied to Jordan’s name. As if taking over the Rocky name and being one of the MCU’s most nefarious characters wasn’t enough.
