Granderson currently sits at 59 runs batted in for the year, with three games to go. That puts him five short of the mark for fewest RBI ever by a player in a 30-home run season. Two players share that distinction, with Felix Mantilla driving in 64 on 30 homers for the Red Sox in 1964 and Rob Deer producing the same for the Tigers on 32 long balls in 1992. Hanley Ramirez shows his face in the top-5, or bottom-5, as well.

Oddly, Granderson’s best chance of avoiding that record might be if Jedd Gyorko manages to go deep three times over the Cardinals’ next four games, as he sits at 27 homers and just 55 RBI. But with the Mets trying to fight off St. Louis for a Wild Card spot you can bet Granderson would be just fine entering the history books.
