Still, these nearly weekly developer blogs have revealed plenty of interesting details include new and returning abilities. Longtime Metroid fans will still recognize the return of classic items like Screw Attack and Speed Booster, though developer MercurySteam has made sure to introduce a number of new and unique abilities such as the Phantom Cloak. However, even with all the marketing materials that have been revealed so far, there’s clearly more to talk about, which the latest overview trailer intends to talk about.

The latest Metroid Dread trailer takes a complete look at the game from the story, to abilities, and even exploring the world of ZDR. As expected, the map appears to be huge with twisting pathways and hidden alcoves waiting to be discovered like previous 2D Metroid games. The trailer also confirms a vast array of biomes from the traditional magma zones and caves, to underwater sections and even ancient ruins.
The trailer features plenty of new gameplay with all sorts of new abiltities like her slide maneuver, to the wall climbing Spider Magnet. Storm Missile can lock on to multiple targets before firing a volley of missiles, while Flash Shift looks great for getting around, allowing Samus to essentially air dash across gaps and terrain.
Fans also get a look at a number of new enemy types including various types of E.M.M.I. robots teasing their unique abilities. Boss battles are also shown including what appears to be a small Chozo Warrior as well as other organisms.
One question that seems to have gone unanswered is if other classic Metroid villains will also be making their return as well. Even though this chapter appears to wrap up the Metroid and X Parasite chapter of the franchise, it hasn’t stopped Nintendo from finding ways to work in fan favorite enemies such as Ridley. The dragon looking alien creature has continued to rise in popularity, even being added to the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster. With Kraid being confirmed, many fans have begun to speculate that it could mean Ridley may also find a way to return from its supposed death in past games.
Metroid Dread releases October 8, 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
